Election time again!
Check below to see if your candidates are for or against golf courses!
Support Council candidates who support golf courses! Auckland Council is currently considering a proposal which redesignates land usage for golf courses in Auckland and may result in some courses closing and others being converted to housing or substantially downgraded. Apart from Chamberlain Park other courses on land leases from council which would be affected are Omaha, Pupuke, Muriwai, Waitemata, Takapuna, Waitakere, Remuera, Waiheke, Clarks Beach, Waiuku, Awhitu and Great Barrier. With voting on the local body elections opening shortly we encourage you to get out and vote to establish a golf-friendly council. Golf New Zealand is also opposed to the inferred changes and is taking a political stance including seeking feedback from council candidates and identifying those friendly to golf, including:
Albany ward: Wayne Walker, John Watson
North Shore ward: Danielle Grant, George Wood
Rodney ward: Greg Sayers
Waitemata & Gulf ward: Mike Lee
Whau ward: Tracy Mulholland
Albert-Eden-Puketapapa ward: Christine Fletcher, Will McKenzie
Orakei ward: Desley Simpson
Maungakiekie-Tamaki ward: Troy Elliot
Howick ward: Sharon Stewart, Maurice Williamson, Paul Young
Manukau ward: Malcom Turner
Manurewa-Papakura ward: Angela Dalton, Daniel Newman
Franklin ward: Andy Baker
As far as local board candidates are concerned, we would encourage supporters who live in the Albert-Eden area to vote for the C&R team in both divisions as we know that they are fully supportive of retaining Chamberlain Park as an 18-hole golf course. Please take the time to cast your vote and share this information with your family and friends.
Louise Kane
Chair: Save Chamberlain Park
